Minute of Spotlight: Homemade Skin Care

Its about that time to be thinking of applying for schools and my future. I was checking out Blanche McDonald Centre's blog for the first time and realized they actually have some very good homemade recipes for skin care. Blanche McDonald Centre is a Vancouver college based in Vancouver Canada and is a world class educational institution focusing on the creative and applied arts.

Here is a simple and effective all-natural recipe.  It’s probably one of the most popular homemade facemasks out there. You’ll never have to leave your kitchen to make it and it’s especially great for the upcoming Fall and Winter seasons, keeping your skin moisturized and free from dead skin. Oatmeal comforts and nourishes the skin – it’s rich in protein, potassium, iron, phosphates, magnesium, and silicon.  And it’s perfect for sensitive skin because it is naturally gentle and mild.
Oily Skin:
½ cup cooked oatmeal, cooled
1 egg white
1 Tbsp fresh lemon juice
½ cup mashed apple
Dry Skin:
½ cup cooked oatmeal, cooled
1 egg yolk
½ mashed banana
1 Tbsp honey
Normal Skin:
½ cup cooked oatmeal, cooled
1 whole egg
1 Tbsp almond oil
Step one: Mix all of the ingredients into a smooth pasteStep two: Apply and leave on for 15 minutes (avoid eye area)Step three: Rinse with tepid water, pat dry with towel

Milk is a gentle alternative to soap as its lactic acid content helps to cleanse surface bacteria.

½ cup water
¼ cup whole milk
2 tbsp baking soda
1 egg white
step one: mix until well blended (you can use a whisk)
step two: massage mixture onto face (avoid eyes)
step three: rinse with tepid water and pat dry with towel
step four: pour into a clean container and refrigerate the remainder

½ cup plain yogurt
1 tbsp sunflower or any light oil
1½ tsps fresh lemon juice
step one: mix well
step two: gently massage on face (avoid eye area)
step three: rinse with tepid water and pat dry with towel
step four: store remainder in the refrigerator
Good for all skin types.
