Coleworld: New Single Disappointment

Disclaimer I"m a big fan of J. Cole and have been even before he started to get major notice around the world for his lyricism or even air play on the internet. Mind you, I'm not a hipster and in no way am I trying to brag about how "I knew him before anyone else did", I'm just saying that I'm a big fan and supporter of him as an artist and a person and I can't wait for him to be recognized as one of the greatest, if not, the greatest.

J.Cole - Workout

A couple of days ago his highly anticipated single for his debut album, Work Out, finally cleared. J. Cole released it via. Twitter. I'm not really feeling this song, mind you, I haven't given it the greatest listen and paid attention to the complete lyrics but I didn't get the high or excitement I thought I would get when I first heard it. To be honest, this single seems a little "main stream". Something that a lot of fans and non-fans (usually fans of Drake) have been requesting from him.

Even if this song rubs off on me...I just hope his next single and his entire album is a lot better than this.

J. Cole Discusses G.O.O.D. Friday Verse

While with Complex Magazine, J.Cole gives detail on how his verse for Looking For Trouble came into fruition.

“That verse was last minute. I got the beat the night before from my manager. But nobody told me they wanted to do it for G.O.O.D. Friday, and definitely not that G.O.O.D. Friday. I was like, ‘Oh man, that beat is dope. I’ll write to it soon.’ The next day I woke up in Kalamazoo, Michigan—I was on tour—and I was getting ready to go to Detroit because I had a radio promo event to do. So I got a call from Kanye and he was like, ‘What’s up? It’s Kanye. Can you get that verse today? I’m tryna put the song out tonight.’ I honestly didn’t think I could do it in time so I told him that. He said, ‘I’ll wait. We got engineers up all night so you got a while to do it. But if you can, have it done by today.’ I said, ‘I’ll make it happen somehow.’

I wrote my verse on the hour-and-a-half ride to Detroit, did the radio promos, left that, went directly to the studio, laid the verse, and sent it to him by 5 o’clock. Mind you, I didn’t hear anybody else’s verses or the song itself, I just heard the beat and did my verse. I drove back to Kalamazoo and did the show. When I got offstage, he had just put the song out, and I sat back and watched all the comments as people went crazy. It was a beautiful night.”

Fail at Fashion: Omarion

This is exactly what I'm talking about people losing their individual style. Omarion may be growing and obviously wants to be fashionable, I've seen to many fashion fails of his at public events, but I think he needs to reconsider his style. It doesn't suit him. It doesn't flatter him. Its been done by so many other people who can do it better. This reminds me of some fail version of something that a model might do in an editorial uhh seriously ?? -_____-

Moving on...HOW TALL IS J.COLE !!! DAYMNN

Sidenote: what is it with all hip hop/R&B artists doing the black trench ?

New Music: In The Morning w/ J. Cole x Drake + Drake Talks about Collabo

J. Cole - In The Morning ft. Drake (Prod. by L&X Music)

Listen to the J. Cole and  Drake collaboration "In the Morning," off J.'s new mixtape, Friday Night Lights, which comes out Friday.

The Jay-Z protégé has been building a solid rep over the past three years, both from his earlier mixtapes The Come Up and The Warm Up and from his guest spot on "Star Is Born" off Jay-Z's Blueprint 3 LP. His official debut LP will be out early next year, and he'll be touring Europe with Drake in January.

CLick for more to see Drake talk about the collaboration with J. Cole and the original "In The Morning" song released in 2009.

New Music: J. Cole Friday Night Lights Mixtape Promo Video w/ Leaks + Looking For Trouble

Promo video for J. Cole's new Mixtape - Friday Night Lights

I seriously think that J. Cole is the answer to what a lot of people have been wanting from Hip Hop for a long while - Talent. He's been real since day one. Every hook, every lyric, every interview, he exposes his the truth as he sees it. I know a lot of people compare him to Drake...and believe me I can see the comparisons (fast ride to fame, big hip hop icons as their mentors, young black rappers etc.) but at the end of the day their both on another level. I may be Canadian but I don't automatically say "Drake is the Greatest" or anything like that because I don't relate to him...especially as a Canadian. I feel like he is very mainstream and appeals more to Americans and to an international audience. J. Cole may not be as mainstream - or pop -as Drake, who seems to be in demand to feature on every artist's track, and you may not even like all of his songs, but I think he is definately a great promise to hip hop, an icon in the making.

...and if your sleeping on J. Cole...Heres a quote from a recent G.O.O.D friday music feature called  "Looking For Trouble":

I thought that real sh-t is what you been fiending ’bout
what you been praying for? What you been screaming ’bout?
ironic you been sleeping on the one that you been dreaming ’bout
I've added some leaks from the mixtape as well as the "looking for trouble" song below

New Music: Feel Love with Sean Garret and J. Cole

Feel Love - Sean Garret ft. J. Cole

I guess things didn't work out for Sean Garret at Young Money because he is now signed to Roc Nation. The earlier version of this song had Drake but he swaps it with his new labelmate J. Cole. Listen to the original song (below) to see which one you like best. Personally, I like the newer version.

This is the lead single off his U.S. debut album, is has the singer-songwriter falling in love for the first time and wanting to tell everyone his new feelings.

Here is the original song featuring Drake.

Please Note: This picture is "vintage" Drake...this is the "Toronto Rapper" Drake I remember before he became "Young Money" Drake...not trying to put labels on him but I just feel like his whole persona and attitude has changed since the fame. I don't know him so I can't confirm this but just from a fan's point of view I just don't relate to him as much. He needs to step back and be real. Everything he raps about seems like he's so much higher and better than the rest...where do I fit my reality in that ? (I do know that he is rich now so it is his reality but just think how Nicki Minaj just made a more relatable video...he could make one of those instead of a the usual flashing lights and features video)
