Makeup Warehouse Haul: Preview

Hi guys, I'm no beauty guru but in a previous post about summer makeup trends I probably mentioned that I've always wanted to get into makeup and just never ended up getting around to it. Lately, I've been really craving for a lipstick. You know that feeling a lot of girls get when they want to shop like, I WANT that shirt, I NEED A JEFFERY CAMPBELL BOOT, I'm DREAMING about those vintage shoes...etc. Well I had the same thoughts...but for lipstick.

I've never had very much luck with lipstick it felt and looked too pasty. Nearly all of my lipsticks had came from really cheap makeup sets, the ones you might get as a kid, or I've had them for so long I couldn't even tell you when I first got it. As of lately instead of googling fashion I've been obsessed with reading reviews and hauls of makeup. (Makeupalley.com is a really good place for anyone who wants product reviews from real people (no one is sponsored or paid for their opinions). You can find nearly anything you want on that site). I knew I needed to buy a lipstick just to calm the insanely obsessive thoughts of me buying a lipstick.

My top reasons for wanting a lipstick:
  • I wanted to build a decent makeup collection
  • Lipstick requires the least amount of brushes & prep (in my opinion)
  • Its something that I wouldn't mind practicing at
  • Somehow I had in my mind that I would look awesome in lipstick

All my recent lipstick purchases

Well I told myself to buy one or two lipsticks but found a warehouse sale and bought 8 (4 for $10). I have no idea at this point if I'll eventually be regretting how many I picked up at one time. I mean seriously, outside of dance performances, I've never worn lipstick o___O but I guess for now I'm more than satisfied with my purchases.

Actually to be honest, I bought these lipsticks on the day that most of my school went to prom...but I guess that's another story.

Above and below you will see the pictures that I have taken but I have also added my name and website...just in case someone (who would though) decides to take my picture without crediting me. I really did try to lay everything out to look as professional as possible. =)

All my purchases found at the warehouse sale (not including the nail polish)

I bought 6 revlon lipsticks, 2 maybelline lipsticks, 2 tweezers, and 1 rimmel mascara (i also bought a sally hansen nail polish but not at the warehouse)

Hopefully I can get in a review as soon as I've tried them.
What do you think of my pictures ?? (I took them myself)
Is there any purchases that you think a beginner, like me, should have in their makeup collection?

blinking beauty

I used to be a dancer so I always have a soft spot for dancers and photography featuring them.
i love what dance can do to a body. The way your body can move and the figure of a dancers body is beautiful…its a plus that the lighting on her does wonders. love

Not wearing much but an afro and bold lips but I love this photo the same.
Just a natural beauty

Andre Leon Tally - fashion icon

I've been gone for so long and I've been missing blogger but I just couldn't seem to get my lazy ass to blog something sooner. I swear I have more...if only I can get my lazy bum to upload everything...

A Fresh Look on Makeup for the Summer

trend spotted: neon/bright eyeshadow (80s inspired)

Okay, first off I'd like to start off by saying that I'm NO professional when it comes to makeup. To be honest,    I don't really wear makeup. As much as I like to oogle at makeup in department stores AND drugstores and also beauty gurus on youtube I've never made makeup my permanent routine. I'm not sure what it is but lately I find myself being as much entertained by makeup as I usually get from fashion. Hopefully in the week I'll get to post a wish list of products I'd like to start wearing in the summer - nothing to heavy like a full coverage foundation. -______-

ANYWAYS...this photo is one of many beautiful but simple makeup ideas for the summer, although it is a year dated. *sidenote: don't you just love her freckles?*

statement lips are as good as your statement necklaces were in the fall
If nothing else I will rock a bold pink lip because it is simple and bold

Make Up For Ever: First Untouched Makeup Ad + Video

I've been hearing about the new Make Up For Ever Ads for a while but I'm glad that I saw it in person yesterday in Instyle. An untouched photo in the glamourized lives we live in ? Unheard of.

Many may think that it is a publicity stunt...and I agree it is. I'm sure many people will buy or even consider buying their products because of their "untouched" ad but I think its the first step to a great thing. I'm tired of magazines and brands heavily editing models to "fit their view".  Maybe in the near future we may have less photoshop and more "real size" "natural" looking models rather than amazon godesses we know we'll never be.

One thing that I don't like about the new ads is that the poses look too bland and literal. Almost like "not only is this not photoshopped but I took this photo myself"

Hopefully this will put more emphasize on photographers and every other person that goes into the behind the scene of photoshoot and not the photoshop happy editors who have to "fix a girls flaws". (below I have a few controversial covers)

Beyonce's skin colour dramatically changes from lightskin to a darker skin.

I'm going to go ahead and say that Ralph Lauren has THE WORST PHOTOSHOPPED AD that I have ever seen. The model Filippa Hamilton is pictured below.

What do you think of the new untouched ads ?
Is it something that you would like to see more or less of in the future?
