Minute of Spotlight: The Rise and Fall of Amy Winehouse

In 2004, Amy Winehouse was fresh faced and missing her infamous beehive known to the public in later years. Her song, "Stronger than Me," off of her debut album, Frank (2003), won her won the Ivor Novello Award for Best Contemporary Song Musically & Lyrically in the same year.

In 2006, her ironically named single, Rehab, off her next album, Back to Black, propelled her to international fame. In no time she became the Amy we've come to know. Complete with her beehive hairstyle, winged eyeliner, and troublesome lifestyle.

In 2007, Winehouse marries former video production assistant Blake Fielder-Civil in a secret during a trip to Florida. It begins a a tumultuous two-year relationship, which the singer later admits was riddled with drug use. In one picture from 2007, she was seen with bruises on her face and blood seeping from her pink ballet shoes (see below)

In January 2008, Amy checks into rehab.

In Febuary (although not in attendance) Amy Winehouse wins 5 grammys including Best Pop Vocal Album for Back to Black, Best New Artist, and Best Female Pop Vocal Performance for "Rehab." Also, Her album catapults to number two on the U.S. Billboard charts.

In May 2008, Amy Winehouse is arrested in connection with the alleged possession of a controlled drug.

In 2008, Amy Winehouse is featured in Rolling Stone's July issue.

Up All Night with Amy Winehouse music journalist, Claire Hoffman, writes a somber article about the star.

All around her, Winehouse’s home is in disastrous disarray: Discarded bags of potato chips, crumpled nuggets of tinfoil, beer bottles, lingerie boxes and scattered old credit cards tell of a long night that hasn’t ended in weeks, maybe months...
In 2009, Amy finds herself in loads of more trouble, including getting barred from entering the US, to play for Coachella, after allegedly punching a fan at the Society Ball in London. Her parents make a plea for their daughter to get the help she needs. However, later in the year, Winehouse and Blake Fielder-Civil finally call it quits after numerous fights and arrests, and are officially divorced.

In 2008, Amy Winehouse is featured in the November issue of Harper's & Bazaar magazine promoting her new clothing line called Fred Perry.

Here are some of her looks from her 50's inspired collection.

In May 2011, the singer heads back to rehab, quickly checking back out a few months later. She also gives gives a disastrous performance in Belgrade in which she turned up late, forgot lyrics, wandered around the stage aimlessly and garnered boos from the crowd. She also cancels the rest of her tour a couple of days later.

Last in this timeline is today, the day she died.
Back to dust, Back to Black, goodbye and farewell Amy Winehouse.
I hope you rest in peace.

Minute of Silence: R.I.P. Amy Winehouse

"...for Amy Winehouse self destruction was her muse but in the end she was destroyed by it."
Amy Winehouse was found dead today, at age 27, in her at her home in Camden, north London. She was known for her infamous beehive hairstyle and dramatic liner almost as much for her troubled lifestyle and less often for her amazing talent in recent years. Although her lifestyle did not predict a different ending, it still seems quite sad that she ended her life and short career today.

Virgine Magazine Issue #1: Edible Dress & Creative Concepts

...believe it or not but this dress is made entirely out of M&Ms

Cintia Dicker in Virgine Magazine's Premiere issue

If the word "Vigine" means nothing to you now maybe in a couple of years it will.

The name Virgine is a combination of “Virgin” as in “first” and “pure”, “virtual” as in “VIRGINE’s existence evolves around the virtual world”, and and magazine. Its a brand new  bi-annual hard copy magazine that launched a couple of months ago.

VIRGINE Magazine is a brand new innovative high fashion, art and music platform set to revolutionize the way people interact with the fashion industry. Through our proximity with today’s major influential voices in the fashion field, we have managed to develop a magazine that stays ahead of current styles and trends.
VIRGINE is seeking ways to increase societies’ devotion to charity contribution, so every issue our magazine’s first page will be dedicated to charity oriented advertisements.
In addition, we want to create a fashion platform that serves as a bridge between top industry professionals and up-and-coming artists to be showcased side by side under the esthetic and standards of VIRGINE.
Furthermore, VIRGINE wants to innovate by forming bridges between different industries. Imagine an article written by a fashion model who wants to become an editor or an interview conducted by the actual photographer who shot the subject. This is the kind of content we are looking for; content that brings a different perspective to our audience
With VIRGINE, you will be propelled into a global culture of beauty, esthetic, creativity and innovation.

Publisher/Editor in Chief
Ryan Yoon
If you read their "About" (above) you can see that they are really dedicated to their work, and if anything, will take no prisoners when it comes to becoming one of the best innovative magazines in the world. I love creativity and I love that Virgine is doing something different. It may be interesting to find out just how much they can "bridge the gaps" in the industry that they want to create.

Who knows? They may fail and never complete any of their goals...Or they might just become just exactly what they said they'd be.

Even though I don't tend to blog too often (I used to blog a lot when I first started but I'm not sure what happened after the New Year) I am always trolling/scrolling/browsing the internet.

I am quite new to the beauty world and I have been looking to start my collection pretty soon (I bought a bunch of products at a warehouse sale which I'll post soon) and was pretty happy when I found her website. I love finding Canadian beauty gurus/makeup junkies because their prices just seem to be a little more accurate and sensitive than American's who tend to have 50% sales at ULTA or can pick up a product for $1 at a drugstore but I either can't find it or I can find it for 3x's the price.

What I find nice about her contest is that her prizes consist of 20 products (many of them Canadian brands).

Minute of Spotlight: AnnaLynne McCord in NYC

AnnaLynne McCord & Kellen Lutz in New York City

There is not enough words to tell you how much I am loving AnnaLynne's outfit. The shine of her pants is the equivalent to a statement necklace. Lets call her pants, "conversation pants".
I LOVE HER ENTIRE OUTFIT.

Ok. *nods* that is all.

Minute of Spotlight: Cailin Hill

Outside of my few favourite models (which I don't follow regularly) I don't usually follow updates of models unless it has to do with backstage fashion or their street style but i couldn't resist after skimming this interview and seeing "Fuck heels, they weigh my bag down," and that she was from Ontario...a.k.a. Canadian. Check out her interview below from The Cut

Meet the New Girl: Cailin Hill Is Scared of Other Models, Wants to Work With Terry Richardson

"Fuck heels, they weigh my bag down," 22-year-old model Cailin Hill said as she walked into our offices recently. Wearing a coffee-stained white tee and a beat-up pair of Doc Martens.

What were you like as a kid?
Oh man, I was this super awkward arty girl. My dad was an art teacher, so I spent a lot of time alone, drawing in these sketchbooks he would bring home. I spent a great deal of time rescuing injured birds and doing all those things that little misfit children do. I never had many friends, but I managed to make a couple of very close friends. I guess haven't changed much [laughs].

How did you first get discovered?
I used to work two part-time jobs to make rent. I was working at one of my jobs in the mall when an older model came in and asked me if I had ever thought about modeling. I remember lying and saying no, but I took her card. I came into work for my next shift, and my manager told me the agency had been calling, trying to get a hold of me. I then got scouted again working at Starbucks [my other job] a week after, and I told myself, "Self, you're an idiot if you don't try this."

[Sidenote: lucky girl to get spotted TWICE. I could only hope.]

If not modeling, what would you be doing?
Not sure, but I wasn't exactly rising up the ranks at Starbucks. I think I would probably still be a smart-alecky blogger, living in Canada. I never had the opportunity to travel before modeling, but I hope I would have found my way to New York regardless.

What was the last thing you bought?
Colored panties from Victoria's Secret. I've been living a sad life of nude colored G-strings lately. It comes with the territory.

I personally found her really interesting...I think I would love to meet her. Most models can be quite intimidating...they seem so sure of themselves but in this interview she admits that she's awkward and seems quite real, plus she's really witty. If she's from Ontario I would love to meet her I like anyone that I can relate with and since I consider myself odds and randoms I would say that we could definitely relate. Hopefully, I'll have another post with mix of photos and editorials of her - she is GORGEOUS.

I loved her whole interview so I have most of the questions below, so if you want to read more of her interview click "read more" below.

Style Spotlight: Drew Barrymore

I know I never seem to be keeping up with what's new or who's wearing what anymore...I blame it on a lack of inspiration but mostly laziness.

I know this is not recent but I'm really loving these photos of Drew Barrymore at The-Beauty Detox Solution Book Launch.
Her makeup and styling is perfection. Keri Hilson can't pull off the one earring trend but Drew can. I love her as a red head and I love how she styled her glittery jacket in such a casual way

Minute of Spotlight: Big Sean - Sorry I slept on you...

I tend to always be on blogs and I've seen Big Sean's name floating around for quite a while. Usually, I avoided playing his music because so many different people are promoted on blogs and I find sitting down and listening to all of them can be quite time consuming...especially if they're no good. Some how, I ended up hearing some tracks off of his recent mixtape, Finally Famous Vol. 3, and now I can finally admit that I was missing out on some raw talent.

I'm no wikipedia and I don't follow his personal life so I'm definately no expert on him. I just googled some info to complete this post and understand him a little beter - in my own words:

His real name is quite a mouth full - Sean Michael Leonard Anderson aka. Sean Anderson. (Funny we have the same last name). He is a 20 year old Detroit rapper that was originally born in Santa Monica, CA. Highschool is when he tryed to further his music career by networking and selling his music independently. His big break was in 2005 when he freestyled for Kanye West, at a local radio station in Detroit, 102.7FM, where he would weekly showed off his rhyming skills. His hard work payed off because he signed with G.O.O.D. music in 2007 and Def Jam in 2008. His debut album, "Finally Famous", should be coming out in 2011.

“One of the most important quotes I live by is, ‘imagination is more important than knowledge.. Dreams are so important. Without dreams, you got nothing.”

Above is a short documentary on him and what he stands for. When I saw that video I felt connected to him because he felt so real. He represents for the dreamers, the ambitious ones, and that's all I've ever been.

"I got a dream that's worth more then my reality. And pride that's worth more then a salary.
And a text from the girl I love I stopped calling
Quote I hope its worth all it.
Sometimes I feel I'm working just to work harder. And then work harder then who worked the hardest. man the life of a workeraholic .You either on your work or just workin on it."

Final Hour by Big Sean

^^ Pretty much sums up my life right now.

Check out his interview for Bleu magazine here

“Consider yourself lucky to see a legend before the prime, A killer before the crime.." - Looking for Trouble (G.O.O.D. Friday Music)

As far as fashion goes...he's signed to Kanye West's label so he's obviously part of Rosewood movement.
He cleans up his basic tees with his signature handkerchief in his side pocket. Something Usher has taken note of. The only things I might do without is the sometimes boasting of his labels and clothings - gucci this, louis this, versache this, prada that - i think rappers play that out and makes the clothing seem more casual than anything.

Listen or download to his Finally Famous Vol. 3 Mixtape

And that's the end of that.

Minute of Spotlight: Tahnee Atkinson

Tahnee Atkinson
Perth,Australia.
Winner of Australia's Next Top Model - Cycle 5

DOB: 31/1/1992
Height: 175cm (5'9")
Bust: 32C
Waist: 64cm (25")
Hips: 91cm (36")
Hair: Dark Brown
Eyes: Blue

I've been trying to follow Australia's Next Top Model on tv. but it comes on pretty irregular. since I live in Canada. If I miss a day, I'm pretty much screwed. Hopefully, I can find some episodes online *sigh* regardless this girl is gorgeous. She works the "girl next door" vibe well because she looks so young and cute. I'm not sure if her size is a challege for her in the industry but I think it's good that an ANTM represents something other than the norm.
