Education "statistics" have names: Anthony, Francisco, Bianca, Daisy, and Emily, whose stories make up the engrossing foundation of WAITING FOR SUPERMAN.
My tech teacher showed this trailer in class last month to drill in our minds how privileged we are to have a right to a good education. This film is an American film but can be related to anyone; we can all learn from their mistakes. Too many times people use school as a luxury - to skip or not skip - or maybe - i don't care if i fail that class, the teacher hates me. A lot of people don't have this option, abusing our privileges are almost a slap in the face to the many people who want an education but can't get it.
Usually I try to steer clear of documentaries but this one seems to be quite interesting. I'm definitely going to check it out. I'd also like to side note: I do think that education is a right. Why are we sacrificing our generation of kids to lack of education ? What are we gaining from this ?
Some key things to note:
My teacher pointed out that in school we used to be taught that "stupider" is not a word.
Apparently, it is for Mr. Geoffrey CANADA !!
In 2006, America ranked 25 out of 30 developed countries.
Canada ranked 5th!! (Japan 6th YESSS!!)
The statistic about illiterate Americans and the drop-out rate in one school was shocking - to say the least.
