Make Up For Ever: First Untouched Makeup Ad + Video

I've been hearing about the new Make Up For Ever Ads for a while but I'm glad that I saw it in person yesterday in Instyle. An untouched photo in the glamourized lives we live in ? Unheard of.

Many may think that it is a publicity stunt...and I agree it is. I'm sure many people will buy or even consider buying their products because of their "untouched" ad but I think its the first step to a great thing. I'm tired of magazines and brands heavily editing models to "fit their view".  Maybe in the near future we may have less photoshop and more "real size" "natural" looking models rather than amazon godesses we know we'll never be.

One thing that I don't like about the new ads is that the poses look too bland and literal. Almost like "not only is this not photoshopped but I took this photo myself"

Hopefully this will put more emphasize on photographers and every other person that goes into the behind the scene of photoshoot and not the photoshop happy editors who have to "fix a girls flaws". (below I have a few controversial covers)

Beyonce's skin colour dramatically changes from lightskin to a darker skin.

I'm going to go ahead and say that Ralph Lauren has THE WORST PHOTOSHOPPED AD that I have ever seen. The model Filippa Hamilton is pictured below.

What do you think of the new untouched ads ?
Is it something that you would like to see more or less of in the future?

How To: Jumpsuits & Rompers (Subscriber Request) Part 1

This is a request from a new friend and subscriber mylyfe-mystoryShe is 5`2 and is wondering how on earth she can pull off the jumpsuit/romper trend.

A Romper is simply a onesie with shorts attached. Many people think that this trend should be left to the kids but with these styling tips I think you'll agree that it can work for everyone.

I personally think that this trend can be more easily pulled off for petite girls than a jumpsuit. Chances are there is less of a chance that it will swallow up your size.

I believe that the fit of a romper is most important because it is something that can look all too wrong if not done right.

Curvy Girls

Romper for the Curvy Girl

Something to de-emphasize your rear could be a skirt (like in the photo above) or a nice belt to emphasize your waist.

Petite or Leggy Girl

Romper for girls with long legsRomper for the Career Girl

Size is less of a problem for you so you can experiment more with textures and colours.
The pairing of shorts and heels will do wonders for you. Wear a romper if you want your legs to be the center of attention.

Warning: Do not overaccessorize ! It will look too forced and/or childish.

My best advice would be to look at a romper not as a complicated object or onesie but as an individual piece that can be combined with other basics to make a trendy outfit.
  • For a day time look: pair with minimal accessories and stick to a casual fabric like cotton.
  • If your transitioning your romper from day to night: step up your outfit with a blazer and some heels.
  • For a night time look: try a silky material. Please note: watch the fit with this material if it does not fit right or hits you in the wrong places...DONT WEAR IT !
I would also suggest a good belt. Rompers usually come with a little dingy string in the front and your belt could make you blazer a lot more high fashion

Someone Like You - Adele @ Brit Awards

Before I go to bed I thought I'd share a live video of Adele singing one of the songs I'm really liking right now called: Someone Like You.

Adele always seems to have the perfect song for love, heartbreak, and disappointment. If you've ever had a broken heart, your about to remember it right now.

Sidenote: She is such a beautiful girl and a wonderful singer, I can only hope to see her live someday.

Speaking Of Chanel...

I didn't actually like Chanel's Fall/Winter 2011/2012 Collection.

Besides the catwalk which was a huge drawbridge that opened at either end of the catwalk, surrounded by lots of charcoal and lumps of smoking black rock I was uninspired and definitely not impressed. The dark colour palette combined with weird combinations like a "lace jumpsuit" or my last picture "a bib dress" ? I think I'll Pass...not impressed.
  • Trends:
  •  Jumpsuits, monochrome.
  • Colours:
  •  Black, grey, white, red.
  • Key Looks:
  •  Quilted black jumpsuit.
  • Accessories:
  •  Midi heels, small clutch bags, lace gloves, chain and leather handbags.

Riccardo Tisci: The New Face of Dior ?

It seems that one option to replace John Galliano at Dior after his dramatic scandal which ultimately cost him his position is the current Givenchy designer Riccardo Tisci

A tweet Tuesday night from editor and Harper's Bazaar writer Derek Blasberg that "Riccardo Tisci is CONFIRMED at Dior" has the Twitterverse in an uproar of rumors that Givenchy's Tisci will be Galliano's replacement. But there is also new speculation that it will be Alber Elbaz of Lanvin. Time will tell.

Ricardo Tisci (b. 1974 or 1975) is an Italian fashion designer. He graduated from London's Central Saint Martins Academy, and in 2005 was named creative director for Givenchy womenswear, haute couture and in May 2008 he was named as menswear and accessories designer of the Givenchy men's division.

His apparent fascination with Gothic touches (dark, languid dresses for fall couture) and space-age minimalism (one ready-to-wear show featured white-clad models drifting around a sterile-white sphere) have drawn new attention to the Givenchy brand.

I''m not very familiar with him (not like I'm skilled in many designers) but I've found a couple of facts on Refinery29 that may help you get to know the designer:

1. He is not the most traditional of Italian Catholics but he still remains very tied to the religion and uses it in his work. Tisci said about his fall '11 men's collection for Givenchy, "Religion is a big part of my DNA and this collection was about my Catholic(ism)."
2. You might call his aesthetic "dark" or "gothy", but don't do it in front of him. He hates that. Go for "romantic" instead.
3. Tisci has more than once stated that he's not so sure the catwalk is the best place to see clothing. Wonder what that means for the next season of Dior couture?
4. It's pronounced "Tishee," not "TEE-She," or "Tisk-ee." Get it right, people.

Christian Dior Couture Spring 2011 - My thoughts

I selected 5 pictures from the collection but I remember thinking that the looks were too harsh, bold yes, but not the looks I would normally go for. However, I really love the 3rd and 4th look. The 4th look is divine from the colour to the cut !

What better time to review Dior's last fashion show than right after I posted John Galliano's leave from the company?

*sidenote* Dior's next fashion show will be this Friday.

John Galliano - Fired from Dior

If you haven't already heard, John Galliano is creating a lot of negative buzz about now stemming from a negative video (posted below).

In the video, he is clearly intoxicated but he also makes a very disturbing anti-Semitic rant. "I love Hitler" "People like you would be dead. Your mothers, your forefathers, would all be f****** gassed”

Acadamy Award winner, Natalie Portman who is Jewish, was supposed to wear one of his dresses for the Oscars, but when she saw the video, she released the following statement:

“In light of this video, and as an individual who is proud to be Jewish, I will not be associated with Mr Galliano in any way. I hope at the very least, these terrible comments remind us to reflect and act upon combating these still-existing prejudices that are the opposite of all that is beautiful.”
